Taitam Tuk Pumping Machinery.
Statement regarding engines supplied by Hessrs. Simpson &
Co., London,
The tender of Messrs. James Simpson & Co., Ltd., one
of the foremost British firms for the manufacture of
pumping machinery, was accepted by the Crown Agents on
the 9th. January, 1914. Under their Contract, they had to provide, erect and test two sets of pumping machinery at
Taitam Tuk and to maintain the same for 4 months.
The
dates specified for the delivery of the plant at one of
the home ports were:=
First consignment, not later than 1st. November, 1914.
Remainder
31st. December, 1914.

The plant was to be ready to be taken over by the Colony
on the 1st. October, 1915.
2. Owing, doubtless, to the outbreak of war, the
first set of machinery was not shipped until about the
middle of March, 1915. The second set was shipped early in
Kay, 1915.

3. Mosers. Simpsons' representative, Ir. D. Dyer,
who was entrusted with the erection of the machinery,
arrived in the Colony on the 27th. March, 1915. At the
time of Kr. Dyar's arrival, the foundations for the
machinery had been nearly completed to the required level.
The necessary extensions of the engine and boiler houses
had not been begun as it was desired to conduct building
operations in accordance with the wishes of Messrs. Simpsons'
representative. On the 15th. July, Hr. Dyer complained that
the delay in proceeding with the extensions of the buildings
was hindering him in his work of erecting the machinery. Prior to this, Mr. Jaffé had understood from him that it
