From the tests carried out by Mr. Stanger, it would appear that the "Lammit" sheeting is about twice the strength of that supplied by the British Corrugations Ltd., and we agree with Mr. Stanger that this is probably due to the longer fibre of the Asbestos in the German make, especially as our assistant who was present at the tests observed thatthe deflection before breaking with the "Lammit" sheeting was considerable, but with the English very slight.
The mathematical deduction from the tests is that either sheeting would have been capable of withstanding a horizontal wind force equivalent to 40 lbs per square foot on
3 feet bearings with a factor of safety of 2 for the English
sheeting and 4 for the German. It would be questionable having regard to the "short "nature of the English make whether it
would give so good & result as this on the longer bearings.
The Chemical Analysis shows that the composition of
the two makes was very similar, though it points to the
Asbestos in the English sample being of an inferior quality to
the German.
Enclosed is a copy of a letter addressed to the Horsley
Co. in which the British Corrugations Ltd, guarantee their
material to be at least of equal quality to "Lammit" sheeting.
This guarantee is not borne out by Mr. Stanger's tests, nor is
the requirement of the Specification for "similar sheeting"
