Proposed Hotel at Deep Water Bay.

Will you be good enough to invite His Excel- -loney's attention to this matter, which appears to us to be of sufficient public importance to merit departure from the usual routing.

On 15th. June last Our Mr. Bowley called on Mr. Chatham and showed him a survey of a site overlooking Deep Water Bay upon which the Hongkong Hotel Company Limited is desirous of erecting a small but up-to-date and first class Hotel, to be managed in connection with the Hongkong Hotel. The scheme includes running a service of motor cars from the main hotel to its branch for the use of patrons, and the use of a portion of the bench at Deep Water Bay for bathing.

If the Company succeeded in acquiring the land they propose to commence building at once and to complete the hotel with the utmost despatch, as the Company is convinced that there is a grant and increasing demand for such accommo-

-dation.

Mr. Bowley endeavoured to impress upon Mr.

Chatham that the matter was considered urgent, and Mr.

Chatham asked him to put the application in writing and

promised to lay it before the Government. The written application was made on the next day, and since that date Mr.
