Court Translator. Other reasons for the abnormal length of some

of these o2208 can be assigned, but it is only necessary to say that the Court is generally powerless to avert it; for to ourtal:

the evidence, or to interfere with the discretion of Counsel,

may inflict injustice on the party concerned.

In illustration of the portentous length of these

cases I may state that I have sat on cases lasting for 53, 35 and

20 days respectively, and the oase now being heard by the Puiene

Judge has reached it's 5örd day and is likely, Dounsel aseure

us, to last another 30 days.

This okse arose out of the hearing of a petition

for winding up a chinese Company on which I had adjudicated, and

the opinions which I had expressed in regard to some of the

parties concerned made it impossible, or at least undesirable,

for me to hear the present action and the Puisne Judge is trying

it. I have thus in the meantime done the work of the Summary

Gourt in conjunction with the work in Chambers in Original

Jurisdiction. The work in Summary Juziediction at the present

time is spasmodic, and finding that there are two Counsel

available other than those engaged before the Puisne Judge I

instructed the Registrar to issue a Circular to the Solicitore

(copy attached).

By this it appears that, until the large ozae

in question is finished, I proposed to divide my time between

proceeding with the actions in Original Jurisdiction and taking

cases in the Summary Court.

My proposals have met, as I feared they would,

with objection from the Solicitors interested on the ground that

the Counsel concerned in the future aotions are engaged in the

present action. I attach letters which have been addressed to

| the Registrar on the subject. It is therefore clear to me that

any attempt to proceed at the present time with the other

olees would be futile.

Under the circumstances, and with only two other

Counsel available, it may, I think, inflict hardship on one or
