Dear Sir,

My letter of the 6th im tant conveying to you

the contents of a communication received from the Hongkong

War Charities Committee made it clear that the delay which

has occurred in carrying out the main condition of their

promise of support has not led to its withdrawal, but

only to a further offer of the choice of an alternative

proposal, from which the parent institution would

probably derive greater financial benefit than could be

looked for under the Eaton Square Extension scheme.

That being understood, I have now to say that

while thus agreeing in the meantime to stand by the terms

of the original arzangement, the Hongkong Wat Charities

Committee, having evidently grown doubtful of the

existence of any such pressing need for an Extension of the

Hospital as would justify heavy capital outlay, and being
