sir.

I venture to approach you in the following matter:- My brother and I, both natural-born British subjects, were at the outbreak of war partners in the firm of Arnhold. Karberg & do., which firm was registered in China at the GerMAN Consulates. The goodwill of the firm is however the property

Bolely of my brother and myself.

After lengthy negotiations and a full investigation

of the whole position on the part of H.M.'s Government, we have, on giving a bond precluding us from resuming at the end of the war our association with our former German partnere, been au- thorised to establish in China a separate firm under the style of H. E. Arnhold, since we are precluded by the opposition of the German Consular authorities in china from taking over the business in that country of our former partnership as a whole.

In London and New York, in order to preserve our rights to the goodwill, we have been authorised by H.M.'s Government to continue trading under the style of Arnhold, Karberg & 00. until it becomes possible finally to liquidate the affairs of our old partnership.
