POLICE RESERVES AT MACAO,

About 150 men of the Hongkong Police Reserve, accompanied by Mr. F. C. Jenkin, D.S.P. (R.), and Chief Inspector Leo d'Almada. journeyod to Macao on Aug. 25th to take part in the Macao Volunteer Corps celebration of the third anniversary of the formation of the Corps. The Police Reserve contingent, which was accompanied by the band, buglers and drunners, reached the Portuguese Colony soon after mid day and at once marched to the Volunteer beadquarters. In the afternoon the Reserves took part in a roriew at Long Ting Chin camp, and alan marched part,

The officers of both Corps subsequently sat down to dinner at the Macao Hotel, when Mr. Jenkin, in proposing the tonet of the Macao Volunteer Corps. returned Danks, in the name of the Hongkong Police Reserve, for the invitation which had been sent to them from Macao, and also for the gront hospitality which had heon extended to them. DR. KOCH'S RETIREMENT. QUARTER OF A CENTURY IN THE COLONIAL MEDICAL SERVICE.

On Aug. 30th Dr. W. V. M, Koch prae- cally completed his term of service under the Colonial Office, for he left by the Empress of Russia to take a short holiday and, on his return in October, he will com menco private practice with consultation Fours in Hotel Mansions.

It is a quarter of a century since Dr.) Koch, who is a Master of Surgery as well as a Doctor of Medicine, entered the colonial Medical Service. Prior to that he had been Assistant Medical Officer to the South Yorkshire Asylum, Wadsley, dear Sheffield, and to the Hull Borough Asylum for four years. His first Govern ment appointment was to Trinidad, in the West Indies, where he was stationed from 1889 to 1901, and during that periodi he was sent on special service to Grenada, in the latter year he held temporary appointments in the Hospital for Diseases of the Nose, Throat and Ear, Golden Square, and the Royal Ophthalmic Ho pitat, London. He was transferred to Hongkong in 1908. For the past twen years his work has laio in the Govers ment Civil Hospital and Lunatic Asylums, of which he was appointed Superintende ent at the end of 1914 after having geted in that capacity for a long term. Under bis able.administration the Hospital har been freely rosorted to by all sections the community, European as well native, despite its inconvenient and in salubrious situation. The popularit” which the institution enjoys is undoubtedy ly attributable in large measure to De Koch's deservedly high reputation as a skilful surgeon and able organiser, com bined with his genial and sympathet manner.

The master of a shop, 231, Des Vaux Road Central, has reported to the police that between 10 p.m. on August 25th and am. on the 26th some person stole from his premises, money and jewellery to the value of $1,812.

A Chinese student, of 49, High Street, reports to the police that between 10 p.m. on Aug. 25th nada.m. on the 28th. some person stole from a drawer in his house jewellery to the value of $1,340.70 and a cash-box valued at $2.39.
