I have the honour te soknowledɛe the
receipt of your telegram of the 13th August, regardin,. the appointment of Second Assistant Auditor for the Colony, and to inform you that I learn from the Director of Colonial Audit that Er, Harcourt was reported in April 1mat by a kedical Beard to be suffering from tuberculosis, and that he was on their advice granted four and a half months' vacation leave nad recommended not to return to Fiji, The Lirector is unaware whether
as the result of a further medical examination in lew Zealand, which he understands has been arranged for, kr. Harcourt has been found fit to return to Fiji, In any case, the Director is not prepared to recommend Mr. Harcourt for the post in Hong Kong.
2. In due course the Director will recommend a suitable candidate for the post in question, but I understand that there is no reason for urgency in the matter, as had Mr. Cormack lived, the Vireotor had contemplated that he should be granted leave of absence from the Colony in view of his unsatisfactory medical history, and of his having completed nearly five year■*
