In reply to your letter of the 17th instant

transmitting oopy of a despatch received from the Governor

of Hong Kong with regard to the supply of ale and atout

to the Colonies by Messrs. Younger & Company of Edinburgh,

I am instructed by Lord Emmott to state, for the information

of Mr. Secretary Long, that a general licence has been issued

to Mesare. Younger for the export to all the extra European

destinations of one-third of their normal exports of ale

stout, and they are accordingly at liberty to utilise taie licence for the export of ale and stout to Hong Kong If they desire to do so.

I am to add that this Department does not control

orts to the troops, which are dealt with by the Army & Navy Canteens Board, Knightsbridge.
