sir,
In reply to Mr. Grindle's letter of the 1st August
last (35175/1917), I am directed by the Central Control
Board (Liquor Traffic) to express their regret that they
are not able to furnish any special information which would
be of much assistance to SirgH.May.
Chapter IV of the enclosed Third Report of the
Board contains an account of the system of direct ownership
and control of licensed premises which the Board have
established in certain areas in Great Britain.
The Board have, however, no material which is in
a form suitable for communication and which is not generally
accessible with regard to Government monopolies in the sale
of intoxicating liquor in other countries.
I am,
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office,
S.W. 1.
Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
d. c. J. Sylen
Secretary.
