Operators for the Post Office Wireless Bervice at Coast
Stations in the United Kingdom are selected from the established officers of the Post Office Telegraph Service who are expert Telegraphists and not less than 21 or more than 24
years of age.

Candidates are required before transfer on probation, but not necessarily before selection, to obtain the elementary certificate of the Society of Arts in French and German. The candidates selected are regarded as probationers for two years, and are liable at any time during those two years to be returned to the class from which they have come without loss
of Seniority. They are also required to qualify in the
Technical examination for the Wireless Class within two years
of being attached to it on probation.
The Scale of pay is-1st year 32/- a week;
2nd n
11 35/- "; and
on passing the necessary examinations and being accepted on the staff 40/-. Then by annual increments of 3/- to 70/.
The wages are inclusive, no allowance being made for Technical or Linguistic qualifications.
The hours of duty are 45 not a week, day or night. Each
operator is normally required to work six days weekly, but the
day on which he should be free from duty is not necessarily a
Sunday.
The annual leave is one calendar month and inclusive of
