REGISTER No. G.P.0. 238/1917.

REG MAY 7.

GENERAL POST OFFICE,

HONGKONG 1st March 1917.

1

Sir.

I have the honour to enquire whether it is possible to

make arrangements for the local examination or candidates

desirous of obtaining certificates of competency in wireless

Telegraphy which would qualify them to become operators on

board ships registered in the United Kingdom. If such arrangements are feasible I should be glad to know on what

terms they could be made. The certificates would presumably

be issued by the Goneral Post Office of the United Kingdom on

payment of the prescribed fee.

2.

1

As you are no doubt aware the Maval and Civil Wireless Stations in the Colony are operated by Naval operators many of them being seconded for service in the Navy by the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company. Among them suitable men could no doubt be found to act as examiners of local candidates.

2. Could you also inform me on what terus wireless operators are appointed to Coast Stations in the United Kingdom and what certificates you require before making such appointments.

4.

It is proposed to train locally born British subjects for vorkat the Wireless Station at D' Aguilar (V.PS). Any information which you can supply in addition to the details contained in Appendix V and Appendix V1 of the Hand Book for Wireless Telegraph operators will be most useful.

e Secretary,

General Post Office,

LONDON.

I have the honour to be,

sir.

Your obedient Servant.

(Sa) E.D. Wolfe. Postmaster General.
