With reference to your letter (31240/1917) of the 6th July, transmitting copies of communications between the Governor of
Hong Kong and your Department relative to certain Trade Marks
registered in the Colony in the joint names of W. & C. Dunlop of Bradford and William Meyerink and Company an enemy firm in liquidation in the Colony, I am directed by the Board of Trade to
point out that their letter (0.5997) of the 25th April referred
only to enemy held Trade Marks in which there is no joint owner-
ship by a British firm. The question of jointly-owned marks was
dealt with in the Board's letter (0.4726) of the 19th February,
$469/16
Juul 1916,
I am to state, for Mr. Secretary Long's information, that
the only circumstances in which in the Board's view Messrs. Dunlop should be allowed to use the Marks in question in Hong Kong would be if they should acquire the goodwill of Messrs. Meyerink and Company's business, in which case there would be no objection e Under Secretary of State,
COLONIAL OFFICE.
