an examined copy thereof, or by a copy thereof purporting to be certified under the band of the Registrar of Shipping, or other person who may happen to have charge of the original, which certi- fied copy he is hereby required to furnish to every person applying at a reasonable time for the same, and paying therefor the sum of one dollar; and every document, when so proved shall be received as prima facie evidence of all matters therein recited, stated, or appearing.
(9) The British flag may be used on board of any ship lawfully possessing a certificate of colonial registry under this Ordinance.
(10) Any change of ownership in any colonial ship shall render her registry null and void, and the certificate shall be at once de- livered up to the Registrar of Shipping; and any change of master shall be indorsed upon the certificate by the Harbour Master.

(12) Nó colonial ship exceeding 60 tons shall carry more than 12 passengers for bire, unless she is provided with a passenger certifi cate under section 10. If not exceeding 60 tons, she shall not carry any passengers for hire, unless she is provided with a licence from the Harbour Master under section 37.
(13) Every colonial ship shall be, in every respect, subject to the provisions of this Ordinance and (except where the same are in- consistent with the terms of this Ordinance) to the provisions of the Merchant Shipping Acts, in the same manner and to the same extent as British ships registered under the said Acts are subject thereto.
(14) Any certificate of colonial registry granted under this section certificate of shall be in force and effect for one year from the date of such colonial registry. certificate, and no longer, and such certificate shall be renewable by indorsement on the same by the Registrar of Shipping: Provided always that, whether the certificate is intended to be renewed or not, it shall be delivered into the custody of the Registrar of Ship- ping 5 days before the expiration of the year for which it has been granted or, in the event of the registered ship being at sea, then on her return to the Colony. The owner, agent, or master of any such ship who neglects to comply with the requirements of this sub-section shall be liable to a fine not exceeding 500 dollars.
(15) No prosecution shall be instituted under this section except prosecution. under the fat of the Attorney General.

4-(1) The name of a master, firat, only, or second mate, or first Master, or second engineer shall not be attached to the register or articles, and of agreement of any British or colonial ship, unless such master, possess mate, or engineer possesses a certificate of service or competency granted in the United Kingdom under the Merchant Shipping Acts, or a colonial certificate of competency declared by Order-in-Council to be of the same force as if it had been granted under the said Acts.
(2) Every British ship, and every colonial ship exceeding 60 tons, Certificated and every foreign ship holding a passenger certificate under section oicers of
British ship, 10 shall, when leaving any port of the Colony, be provided with colonial ship
exceeding officers who possess valid certificates of competency of a grade to tone, and appropriate to their stations in the ship or of a higher grade, accord- foreign ship
holding ing to the following scale :-
(a) in any case, with a duly certificated master;
(b) if the ship is of 100 tons or upwards, with at least one officer besides the master holding a certificate not lower than that of oply mate, or of second mate in the case of a sailing ship of not more than 200 tons, or of mate of a river steamer, in the case of a river steamer ;
(c) if the ship carries more than one mate, with at least the first and second mates duly certificated;
(d) if the ship is a steamship of 100 nominal horse-power or up- warde, with at least two engineers, one of whom shall be a first class and the other a first class or second class engineer duly certificated; and,
(e) if the ship is a steamship of less than 100 nominal horse-power, with at least one engineer who is a first class or second class engineer duly certificated.
