The American Arbassador presents his compliments
to His Majesty's Secretary of State for Foreign Affaire,
and, with reference to the alleged detention by His
Majesty's Authorities at Hong Kong of certain goods
shipped on two Bills of Lading from Chicago to Bangkok,
Siam, and Sourabaya, Java, by Mosers. Montgomery Ward
and Company of Chicago, concerning which Viscount Grey
of Falloden was good enough to address a Note to Mr.

with, for Mr. Balfour's information, copies of two letters
which have been addressed to the Department of State in
Fashington by the American firm with further reference to
