Replying to your letter reference A/581, of the

11th inst., the face value of the Notes put into circulation

by our Hong Kong Branch at 15th January last was $11.22.070

which total remained unchanged at 30th April last. The

coin deposited on account of the Colonial Treasurer against

this was $5.50.000. We have also deposited with the Bank

of England against this note issue 5% War Loan for £73,700.-

and have made application for return of the fractional

£3700. In view of the rise in exchange we are handing the

Bank of England further £15,000.- 5% War Loan against this

note issue.
