With reference to the telegraphic cor-

-respondence noted in the margin, I have the honour to inform you that the Unofficial Members of the Executive and Legislative Councils unanimously approved of the purchase of the property known as "Tanderages", 132 the Peak, furnished for £7,000 which at exchange of 28. lltd. to the dollar came to 847,659.57 and the transaction was completed with Messrs. Leigh and Orange the agents of Mr. Bryer the owner on the 15th. November.

As it was desirable to purchase a few fittings and a small amount of furniture not included in the purchase price the Financial Minute was made out for $48,000 the amount specified in my telegram of the 10th. November. The house has been occupied by the Colonial Secretary for the

ha past four years, and will now pay rent to the Government at the rate of 5 per centum on 846,000 and 8 per centum on the furniture which has been valued at a little under $2,000, but will be valued at that sun for convenience. The total monthly payment will be $205.

This property is a very valuable one. The
