With reference to Sir F. H. May's Des-

-patch No. 107 of the 2nd. April, 1917, I have the honour to

for auction with the following results:-

(a). Deutsch Asiatische Bank. This property was

purchased by Sir C. P. Chater, C.M.G., on behalf of the

Hongkong Central Estate, Limited, a British firm under the general management of the Hongkong Land Investment and Agency Compony, Limited, for the sum of $335,000.

(b). Messrs. Blackhead's Soap and Soda Factory. This was offered for sale with a reserve price of $225,000, no bid bowever could be obtained beyond 2200,000 at which it was started. The property therefore was withdraw from the sale. The machinery and fittings which were sold separately realised the sum of $15,000.

(c). Messrs. Jebsen & Co.'s home at the Peak. This is the property purchased by the Colonial Government and has already been reported to you in Sir F. H. May's Confidenti- -al Despatch of the 5th. September, 1917.

(d). Messrs. Reuter Brockelmann's Godems.

No. 125, Wanchai Road, was sold to a Chinese, Mr. Shiu Yat, for the sum of $27,000, and the adjoining godown, No. 127,
