[REG? JAN 18

Colonial Secretary's Office,

Hongkong, 2nd. December, 1915.

242

In reply to your letter of the 23rd. November,

I am directed to inform you that in view of the uncertainty of the

duration of the war, of the fact that if money is to be found for

the housing scheme you are interested in it will, it would appear,

have to be found in the Colony, and of the fact that it is

possible that others might come forward to lease the land or that

the Government might desire to use it itself, the Government is

prepared only to hold the land open to your offer until further notice. The Government will, however, give you the option of

taking up the land before it disposes of it to another or decides

to use it on m ite om behalf.

I am etc.,

(8d.) Claud Severn,

Colonial Secretary.

C. Montague Ede, Esq.
