GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
181
HONGKONG. 7th. November, 1917.
I have the honour to inform you that an
application has been made by the Reverend A. D. Stewart,
Headmaster of St. Paul's College, on behalf of the Church
Missionary Society, for the grant of a piece of land at
Aberdeen on which to erect a school.
2.
The school is intended for the teaching
of both English and Chinese. The people of Aberdeen and the
village of Aplicheu on the island opposite are very keen about
the matter, and it is probable that more than a hundred
children will be enrolled at the start. A sum of about $3,000
has already been raised for the building, and it is probable that not less thơ 85,000 will be available if a good site is
approved.
3.
I enclose a plan on which a suitable site
for the school is show in pink, and the proposed line of the
approach path in grem. The site has several advantages:-
(a). It is about fifty feet above sea-level and
would not be shut in by buildings on the main
road.
HE RIGHT HONOURABLE
WALTER LONG, H.P
10..
(b). It will not be required for shop houses.
(c). The children will be out of the way of motor
traffic.
(d). There is room for a playground in front of the
school building.
