Referring to my Despatch No. 276 of the

9th. August, 1915, I have the honour to inform you that 43673/4 having received representations from the Military and loval

Authorities I have granted to all members of His Majesty's

regular Militory or Naval forces stationed in Hongkong the

privilege of free postage on all correspondence addressed to

any place in Great Britain or Ireland, to any British Colony

or Possession and to all places in which British tropa are engaged in Military operations. The concession does not however extend to parcela.

During the period from the 7th. August,

1917, when this concession was first granted, to the 30th. of September, 1917, 20,696 letters, 374 Post cards and 384

other articles have been forwarded free by the Hongkong Post

Office. The loss of postage on these articles which is there-

-fore an indirect contribution by this Colony to the Army and

Navy amounts to 3852.40 for the above mentioned period.
