GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

29th. August, 1917.

:|

Sir,

I have the honour to address you on the

subject of the resumption of part of the Remaining Portion of Marine Lot 43 for the purpose of widening Spring Gardens Lane.

The omers of the Remaining Portion of Marine

Lot 43 have applied for permission to build thereon and have proposed that they should surrender to Goverment the strip colour -ed red on the plan enclosed in order that the northern portion

of Spring Gardens Lane may be widened to 30 feet. Their proposal keeps in view the future widening of the southern portion also though it is doubtful whether it will be possible to arrange for such widening in the near future.

It is necessary, however, to consider the development of the lot now involved and to endeavour to secure the erection of reasonably sanitary houses. It is reported that if the resumption be not made, the extra depth added to the back of the houses, already not too well situated for light and air, would result in the erection of houses, which whilst complying with the Public Health and Building Ordinance could not be

regarded as sanitary.

Moreover the addition to the triangular open space at the end of Cross Street will be most beneficial to the district generally, which is very densely populated.

Having regard to these considerations I have

approved

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

WALTER LONG, M. P.,
