GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

HONGKONG. 31st. July, 1917.

With reference to my Despatch No. 23 of

the 20th. January, 1917, relating to certain goods in which Messrs. Dehn and Güterbock (formerly Dehn & Co.) are interest- -ed, I have the honour to inform you that 29 of the 30 bales have been delivered against payment and that the amount received, less the liquidators' charges, is being remitted to Messrs. Dehn and Guterbock. The amount which is being sent is £229 0 6. One bale of the 30 is missing, having apparently been short shipped.

2.

After the date of my previous Despatch it

was ascertained that the 30 bales above referred to were

destined for the Hamburgische Sudsee Aktien Gesellschaft. The remaining 4 bales referred to in the Despatch were destined for the Heinrich Rudolph Wahlen Gesellschaft. Both these

concerns were under the one management, but it has not been possible to arrange for the shipment of the four bales against payment, and it is therefore proposed to agree to the proposal of Messrs. Dehn and Güterbock that the latter shall give

instructions for the shipment of the bales to some British

concern of old standing in the South Sea.

3. The 30 bales were numbered 17505/6, 17507/8,

17604/6, 17607, 17609/18, 17664/73, md 17872/3. The missing
