sir,

Referring to Viscount Harcourt's Despatch

No. 64 of the 12th. March, 1913, I have the honour to transmit

the enclosed copy of a letter from the Acting Local Auditor

asking, with the sanction of the Director of Colonial Audit,

that the scale of salaries of Assistant Auditors in this

blony may be re-considered.

2.

The duties and responsibilities of Assist- -ant Auditors have undoubtedly increased in recent years and I am satisfied that the existing scale of salaries is no longer

adequate. I have therefore to recomend that the emoluments of

the two Assistant Auditors, which are at the rate of £420 to

£540 by £15 annually, be increased by the addition of duty pay

in the sum of £60 per amum, with effect from the 1st January,

1918.

3.

The grant of £60 duty pay will put the

Assistant Auditors on much the same footing as the Executive

Engineers, Second Grade, Public Works Department, who draw

$450 to £540 by £30 triennially, with £60 duty pay.

4.

As the Estimates for 1918 are in course of

preparation I have, in anticipation of your approval, authorized

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

WALTER LONG, M.P
