2. The Wesleyan School.
3. The French College of the Sacred Heart.
4. The Canton Christian College.
The latter seems to have made the biggest strides and a certain portion of its students go to America for Higher education. In fact its use is that it provides such an educatior ae lends itself to furtheranos in American Universities.
Whatever may be said for the educational influence above indicated as undoubtedly beneficial for the Chinese in producing amongst their youth some ideas of Western thought, it would be unnatural if this British Chamber did not think that similar advantages with a leaning to a purely British trend of Western thought would be better not only for the well- being shiness of the Chinese in South China, but for British trade generally.
Strangely as it may seem Britich influence would appear to be fairly strong in Amoy, but at Foochow it is as weak as at Canton.
In North China western education is largely on American lines and the "Ching Eua College" near Peking has carried on a System of Education which focus968 on a final course at American Universities. Recently it is reported that
a "College Dinner" at Psking was held at which some 400 studente were present who had been educated at American Universities. There is no doubt that from the whole of Chine no such asserbly! could have taken place at which anything like that number of students could have congregated who had been to English Universitŝes.
It is undoubtedly a fact that the recent change of Government e in Chine from & Monarchy to a Republic - has been partly brought about by ideas gathered in the United States of America by American educated Chinese students, which fact is emphasized by the large number of officials one finds in Canton, especially the Juniors who have been educated in America.
