return of 6% on its capital; or, as a last alternative,
to take over the three vessels at market value. Unless
such were done, the shareholders of the Company would
be deprived of a regular source of income, on which some
of them depend entirely for their livelihood. They
cannot believe that it is the deliberate intention of
His Majesty's Government, in whatever circumstance, to
subject them to such condition; rather do they believe
that the hardship which they are now undergoing has been
caused by a general system applied indiscriminately to
different sets of conditions. They are sure, now that
their distressing position is clearly put before it, the
Government will lose no time in effecting its ameliora-
tion.
