Sir,

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
350 4
HONGKONG. 25th. June, 1917.
Referring to correspondence ending with Mr., now
Viscount, Harcourt's despatch No. 328 of the 2nd. November, 1912,
I have the honour to recommend the inclusion under the Free Passage
Scheme of the post of Assistant Interpreter, Supreme Court, which
is held by Mr. Mackie.
2.
The salary of the post, £240
-
$270, is the same
as that draw by First Class Overseers in the Public Works Department md by Sanitary Inspectore, who are entitled to the benefit of the scheme, and it seems reasonable that Mr. Mackie should receive
similar privileges.
3.
Mr. Mackie has recently gone on leave to Australia under Medical Certificate and, as he was entirely without means to pay for passages, I have allowed him free passages under the scheme in anticipation of your approval.
&
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient,
humble servant,
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
WALTER LONG, M. P.
