III.Staff.

Captain G. K. H. Brutton relinquished the duties of Adjutant on the 15th. March, 1917, on his being seconded for military duty outside the Colony and Captain C. Champkin, Calcutta Rifle Volunteers (attached) was appointed Adjutant.

No other changes in the Staff were made during the year,

IV. Inspecting Officer.

Lieut. Col. A. V. Alexander 74 Punjabis was appointed Inspecting Officer on the lat. November, 1916, vice Captain A. Riddell of the same regiment on the latter leaving the Colony. Major H. A. Morgan 18th Infantry was appointed Inspecting Officer to succeed Lieut. Col. A. V. Alexander on the 24th. March, 1917,

on the latter leaving the Colony.

V. G-uard Duties.

The H. K. V. R. have furnished a daily guard of 1 N.C.O. and 6 men on alternate weeks with the H.K. Volunteer Corps at the Wireless Station on Stonecutters Island.

VI. General Training,

Parades have been held during the year weekly and during the cooler weather twice weekly consisting of Battalion, Company, Platoon and Squad Drill, Bayonet Fighting, Musketry Instructions Outposts and Advance Guards, Visual Training, Attack and Defence as laid down in Infantry training. At each parade endeavour bas been made as far as possible to divide the time up with different practices of 20 minutes or so each.
