Officers in Class III - 8120 a month in the Peak
District or 890 elsewhere.
(In the cases of officers in other Departments the
equivalent salary as near as possible will be taken to govern which class they will come under.) That no rent (including taxes) of more than £200 a month will be recognised.
On production of the receipt for rent and taxes an allowance will be paid of such an amount as to reduce the rent (including taxes) to the following
gums:-
In Class I......$60.
6.
In Class II........
..850.
..240.
in Class III........)
These conditions will apply to all officers in
the Service, on the permanent staff. The allowances will in practice be somewhat less than those recommended in paragraph 3 of my Confidential Despatch of the 12th. August, 1915, but condition (b) will ensure that officers take good houses in healthy situations before they can claim any relief.
As the necessity for relief is really urgent I should be much obliged if you would convey your decision of the proposal in paragraph 5 by telegraph.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient,
humble servant,
Z
Governor,&c..
