With regard to Miss Gorham's seniority of four years
I was under the impression that the position of Matron had been
offered her and that she had refused it, or I would never have
applied on my own account. Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to see Miss Gorham in the position of Matron, which she filled
temporarily during the absence on leave of Miss Maker,
With reference to official "Qualifications" His
Excellency, I think, must have been misinformed on this matter. My qualifications are at least equal to those of Miss Slom and certain
-ly more varied, therefore, there appears no reason arising out of them, why I should be passed over in her favour, and in addition I may claim to have had the longer experience of Nursing and Hospital work.
Qualifications.
Miss Sloan was trained in a Poor Law Infirmary near Glasgow for three years and holds the certificate of that institution. She also
holds the certificate of the Central Midhives Board.
I was trained also in a Poor Law Infirmary, Leeds, for three years and hold the certificate of that institution. Our training schools are of equal status in the Nursing world and both recognised training schools.
I also passed the London Obstetric Society's examination and hold their Diploma. Later on when the Midwives Beard Bill was passed and the Central Midwives Board was formed to control the whole, I obatined the certificate of the C. M. B.
I should like to say also that Miss Gorham when on leave from here, passed the C. M. B. examination, having go her experience at the
