I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of

your letter No. 54682 of 24th November in regard to the

two steamers under construction at Hongkong for the

Siam Steam Navigation Co. Ltd., Bangkok, and am pleased

to hear that it is agreed that these vessels may be

completed and placed under the Siamese Flag.

I thank you for having communicated this authority

to H.E. The Governor of Hongkong.

A quantity of Material necessary for completion

of these vessela has been on order in this country for

about one year, but shipment has not so far been allowed,

and I would ask that permits may be granted for this ship-

ment. I have already pointed out that these vessels are

urgently required for the conduct of Trade between Singa-

pore and the British Protected States on the East Coast

of the Malay Peninsula. I do trust, therefore, that

shipment of this material necessary for their completion

I enclose you herewith Specification of the

Steel Plates required, from which you will see that the

two manufacturers are The South Durham Steel & Iron Co.,

and David Colville & Sons.
