ber last, as referred to above, which arrangement had not been with- drawn in the meantime Mr. Carroll, cabled me the London firm's de- olaration that they would give up the conduct of the Texas business imediately, unless my Company forthwith annulled the June contract with Lesers. Reiss (as referred to above), including es it did a vi- tal clause which berred them to approach the Texas Company in regard to this agency, or to accept it if offered to then, without my Ocm- pany's consent in writing: and on the

26th January 1916 Kessrs. Reias in London stated to Mr. Carroll, inj reply to his query what return they were ready to pay us for our in-! troduction of the business, that even this they were no longer in- olined to do, neither in the shape of a return commission nor a sin- gle payment.

What they wanted was that the Texas Company should offer them the agency, state the remuneration it would allow them, and that any return commission for by Company should be paid not by Hes878. Reiss but by the Texas Company

25th February 1916: You informed the Texas Company as to kessrs. Reiss & Co.'s British character and status in general, for which in- formation the Company had asked,

2nd March 1916: Messrs. Reise & Co. Hongkong cabled to the Texas Company that they had cabled me their acceptance of a half share in the Texas contract, jointly with my Company; and on the

7th March 1916; Messrs, Reise & Co., Hongkong, in omnfirming this cable, wrote the Texas Co. that such tripartite Texas Agreement (in) oluding my Company) would be "quite satisfactory" to them.
