The present serves to hand you the usual follow-oopy of my letter by last mail, dated the lat/3rd inst. (together with copy of its englosure).
Since then, I have exchanged various cables with my colleague Mr. E. J. Carroll (whose negotiations with your firm I did not interrupt for reasons atated in my last) about the offer which you made to my Com- pany on the 10th ulto.; and in regard to which offer your Hongkong house, as I learned, has told Mr. Douglass, according to a cable to his principals (the Texas Company), that "Reise London offered Sanders 10th
May very generous terms" !
These "very generous" terms are that, not only do you insist
upon eliminating us from a contract with the Texas Company which we held
now for about six years, but you couple your offer of a return oommission with a condition which, if not qualified, may greatly reduce if not
nullify this return commission; and, in spite of various cables, I have
been unable to elicit from my partner any explanation whatsoever in re-
gard to this condition, viz: as to what you mean by "net profit, after deducting expenses”. At any rate, I hardly think there will be any one
but you so bold as to call this offer of yours, together with our elimi-
nation from the contract itself (with a consequential loss of all hold
