The Under Secretary of State
May 11th, 1916.

upon you the particulars of this onse in these tims of all times,
You will of course have gathered that the statement, an sabled by the Hongkong Bank and put before the Texas Company, does not merely refer to my Company's agency of this Texas business, but to "hny" agency in which my Gompany is concerned, or may be hereafter; in other words, it means that it sould not be interested in any other business which it might introduos to our British correspondents in Hongkong in the form of an agen oy •
I am anxičusly looking forward to your reply, so that I can at last inform the Texas Company one way or the other, and, as to the consequences of an answer informing me that the Governor has not with- drawn his veto, sweeping as it is, I beg leave to refer you to my cable just quoted and my previous reporta,
I have the honor to be,
sir.
Your obedient servant,
