there is any chance of our securing the agency.

693

As I pointed out to Mr Carroll, being a new firm

we have no established precedents to hamper us, and are therefore in a position to handle the agency in any manner commensurate with a satisfactory profit to ourselves, and as may be prescribed by the Company.

In our wire of the 7th inst., we advised that

we were writing full details to London, but a few days ago I received Kr Carroll's reply to my lines of 26th January in which he gave me your New York address, and I therefore decided to await the outgoing US, mail and write direct. Copy of this letter is being sent under private cover to Mr Carroll,

In conclusion, please be assured that if we are favoured with the appointment sought, every effort witll be put forward to conduct the agency to the entire satisfac- tion of your foodself and the Texan Co. I am personally

acquainted with Mr Wade B. Knight of the Texas Co., and with their late representative here, Kr Douglas, and this acquaintance would add to my desire that everything should be done to justify our appointment.

I am glad to say that we are gradually building up what promises to be a satisfactory business with your London and Manchester houses, and I trust the connection will grow and prove mutually satisfactory to both sides

Awaiting, etc.
