I had the honor to address you on this matter on the 4th inat. and now beg to enclose follow-copies of the letter and of its enolo-
sures, the copies of my letter to Mr. Wade Gardner, dated the 3rd inst.,
and of my two letters to Hongkong, dated the 28th alto.

As I reported to you in my cable of the 3rd inst.,
Company is asking for an authoritative denial of the statement made to
it by Mr. Fade Gardner of the Hongkong and 3hanghai Banking Jerporation
that: "Hongkong Government fuses

In view of this, and what reported to you in my itters at present before you, it is obvious that, unless the Texas Cong my re- ceives the authoritative denial of this extraordinary stateit oon- cerning my Company, it will become impossible for us to further handle the Texas business under our contract with that Company, thus allowing the latter to sangel this contract. it is in fact compelle to do ao
