I stated in my letter to Sir Charles, of the oth instant, that the "Tancred" was loading, that I expected every moment to be presented with the documents of the cargu and that this would compel we to pay the Texas Company immediately; that is to say whether this Latter as between Lessrs. Reiss and my Company had been arranged or not, particularly as a second breach of our contractual obligations towards the Texas Jompany would probaoly have had disastrous conse- quences, not only for my Company but for all of us for British in- terests the first breach having been that my Company did not fur- nish the Jexas Company with a credit before loading. to the matter again the following mail, the 14th instant, but this mail was probably not before you at the time you despatched your cable of the 22nd instant.
