We have for acknowledgment your favour of the 24th instant
and in view of what you write we sabled to our Singapore Fire about the matter and we have a reply advising us that they shipped on the 14th March by the "Albiana" 600 bags of Pepper to Hong Kong consigned to Hesers.Fung Tang.
We do not know the whole circumstances and we must await the mail replies to our enquiries but from the in- formation we have at present it would appear that our Singapore Firm were instructed by Hesars.Fung Tang who are the Hong Kong agents of Messrs.3.L.Jones & Do., San Francisco to ship the goods to Hong Kong probably in order to save time, and in the expectation of being able to arrange for a permit in due course to send the goods forward from that port to San Francisco.
As we had received no request
from our Singapore Firm to apply for a permit for this partiorlar parcel we can only infer that the buyers themselves had undertaken
