Gentlemen,
With reference to your letter (M3/18) of November 29th last res-
peating the detention at Hong Kong of certain tyres shipped by your
firm to Manila, I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to inform you
that the Governor of Hong Kong has general authority to allow to pro-
seed prohibited goods shipped from foreign countries to named con-
signees in places in Asia abd landed in the Colony for transhipment,
if he is satisfied that they are for local consumption at those places
and will not be re-exported. I am to add that, should you desire it,
telegraphic enquiry will be made at Hong Kong in the matter provided
you are wil ̈ing to defray the oost thereof. For this purpose you
should address the under Secretary of State, Colonial Office.
