CONFIDEN
365
Downing Street,
July,1916.
Dear Mr. King,
I referred your letter of the 7th July confiden-
tially to the Home Office who have under consideration the
question of taking action against smugglers. They are
perpending the matter but meanwhile they enquire whether
you are in touch with the Metropolitan and Liverpool police
as to the identity of the smuggling gang. My impression
is that you are but I don't like to tell the Home Office
without confirmation.
The Home Office also suggest that any information
you have might be communicated through us to them.
I take it that you are working with the Folice and
give them your information but I should be glad to know.
Yours very truly,
