With reference to your despatch #3648/1916 of the 6th
September, I have the honour to report that it has seen as- certained that the 2360 cases of rubber which arrived here
by the S.3. "Tjisondari" on July 2 and which, after various changes of hands, finally reachede Eastern Forwarding Co. a German concern, were loaded on the submarine "Deutsch- land", or were stored for loading on another vessel of the
same class.
Endeavours were made to trace a shipment of 1500 cases bearing the sand mark (ROMA) which arrived at San Francis August 4th by the S.S. "Karimoen", and it appeared that tha cargo was taken over by the same firm here and shipped East.
I think it is reasonable to assume that it has gone to
the same destination.
As these cargoes arrive here in neutral vessels, it is not possible for us to control the disposal of them, and it
curs to me that it might be well for the Agent of the Java' Japan line to be informed as to the destination of shipments made by the "Rubber Cultuur Maatschappy, Amsterdam" ( ROMA The Bills of Lading of the "Karimoen" cargo read "Advise Anglo London Paris National Bank, consignees, Java
Japan Line, J.D. Spreckels & Co.".
The Bank informed me that they had nothing to do with the forwarding of the goods, and did not know why their name had been inserted in the Bills of Lading as they nad no
