With reference to the sale of $1,700,000 worth of 10-cent pieces on 17/3/16 I attach copy of the rates of bar silver for the period 29/2/16 to 20/4/16, from which it will be seen that the price of silver did not rise to the figure at which Vort: sold to the Indian Government through the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank until the 23rd of March, when it stood at 27 d.per oz. There was therefore no sudden jump immediately after the bank a offer was accepted. H 271 d. was also the price by the Bank's purchaser of this amouật of sub-coin.
The tems were also f.o.b. Yap Hongkong.
