I have the honour to acknowledge the letter from

the Department of the 29th ultimo, transmitting a copy of
a Despatch from the Governor of Hong Kong to be laid before
the Committee of the Colonial Nursing Association for their
observations, with regard to the questions raised by Er,H,E,
Pollock, K.,, on the Nursing Staff of that Colony.
The matter was brought before the Executive
Committee of the Association at a l'eeting held on the 4th
ultimo, and I am instructed to say that since the close of
the year, 1914, when seven nurses were recommended for
appointment, and were appointed, viz:-

it has not been possible to find nurses for the vacancies
subsequently advised. The principal reason for this is that
the War has seriously curtailed the number of available
nurses,
However, since the outbreak of War, the Association
has been able to offer employment in the Civil Hospital at
Hong Kong to seven Purses. Of these, two declined, saying
that they intended to work as urses in Military Hospitals;
one would not take a place below that of "atron; one declined
in favour of an appointment in the British Guiana Government
Hospital; two were about to be married, and the last had no
maternity certificate, and was unable to take it at the time
owing to private affairs. There was, therefore, really only
