sir,
RECE REG 22 JUN 16)
In reply to your letter of June 5th,(25536/1916) enclosing copy of a telegram from the Governor of Hong Kong with regard to the proposed export of 200 tons of Burmah lead to Yokohama, I am directed by the Minister of Munitions to state, for the information of Mr Secretary Bonar Law, that this Department would be willing, provided the price was satisfactory, to purchase the lead in question for shipment
to Russia via Vladivostock, and that he would therefore be
glad to learn the name of the owners of the material, and the name of their London Agents.
As regarde the general question of the export of Lead
from Hong Kong, I am to state that unofficial information has been received that the prohibition is now removed and that consignments are going to Japan. It would hardly seem likely that this is correct, but the Minister would be glad to be assured on the point. I en further to state that in
view of the requirements of the Russian Government,
Mr Lloyd George would be glad if Mr Bonar Law would be good enough to consult this Department before authorizing any further shipments of lead from Hong Kong.
In this connection I am to refer to the telegram of the
and June and 10th June, from the Governors of Hong Kong. your baby
Copies of which were enclosed with your letters/126064/1916), The Under Secretary
of State,
Colonial ffice,
