Sir,

I beg to forward herewith a letter,
enclosures, which has been referred to me in the first
instance by Sir William Plender, the official Supervisor
of the British Establishment of Enemy Banks in London,
addressed to the Secretary of State by the British
Establishment of the Direction der Disconto-Gesellschaft.
In view of the fact that the payment by the Liquidators
of Messrs. Jebsen & Co. of Hongkong to the Direction der
Disconte Gesellschaft would be applied by that Bank to
the reduction of their indebtedness to the Pank of
England, it is hoped that it may be found possible to
sanction the payment.
I might add, with reference to the first
sentence of the second page of the Bank's letter, that
no useful purpose would be served by the grant of an
authority to communicate with Germany in the matter, in
that the result of any application by the Disconto Gesellschaft's London Agency for the remittance of the amount due would probably be an instruction by the German Authorities to the firm to pay over the amount to the
Diacon to-Gesellschaft in Berlin.

I mm, Sir,
Your obedient servant,
