The want of a big German sentral stores in the Far
Kant has long been felt to be a grievous disadvantage. The
ezeptione under the Inoxy Trading Regulations certainly
permit the English stores to continus retail business with
the German, but in spite of this one is on the whole brought
to the conviction that it is time to create a universal
German emporium for the Jar East and to commence the prepara-
tions therefor now.
The matter has been taken in hand by a number of
gentlemen and at the request of derr 1.0. Augustenon, the
manager of the German firm Sietas; zlanbeek à 00, in Tsing ŝai
for many years, so whom the carrying out of it has been
entrusted, I have allowed to be distributed through the
Consulates at Hankon, Tschangtaha, Hankin, Itsehang, Tuohung-
king, Teshengtn, Yunnanfu, kanton, Beihan, Swatan, Amoi,
Futsehan the enclosed) accompanying appeal (1) among daraja,
circles, so no means of obtaining addresses suitable for the
purpose were available; in North China this has been done
through the Tientsin sub-office of Sietan, Plunbook & Co.
