Gentlemen,

In reply to your letter of the oth ultimo, in regard to Lessrs H.Uprann and Co., of Havana, I beg to inform you that at least one of the partnere of this firm, namely, Mr Hermann Upmann, is a German subject.

Messrs Upmann and Co. have not approached this Consulate General in regard to the certificate as to their nationality required by you, and it appears unlikely in the circumstances that they will

do so.
