With reference to your communication of the

24th March, 14047, in regard to the chartering

14047.

or purchase of a steamer to carry raw sugar from

Java to Hong Kong, I am directed by the Shipping

Control Committee to say that if the steamer in

question is British, then no immunity from requisition can be granted. If, however, it is a neutral vessel that is to be purchased and

transferred to the British flag, then the vessel will

be exempt from requisition.
