Sir,
In answer to your letter 8741/1915 of
January 28th on the subject of machinery destined for
the Macao Electric Lighting Company, on board the S.S.
"Bulow" refuging at Lisbon, I am directed by Secretary
Sir Edward Grey to inform you that the Siemens China
Electrical Engineering Company is on the China black
list as an enemy firm.
There being no information in the possession
of this Department as to the nationality and status of
the Macao Electric Lighting Company, His Majesty's
Minister at Lisbon has been requested by telegram to
furnish a report on the subject. Pending the receipt
of this report, Sir Edward Grey is inclined to consider
that no facilities for the transhipment of this
machinery should be granted.
I am,
The Under Secretary of State,
COLONIAL OFFICE
Your most obedient
humble Servant,
for the
Walter Toronley
Controller.
