arrested.
On their way to the station witness asked one of
them where the "cargo" was stored and was told that it was in
the "English Settlement". He was told that the cargo belonged
to a Japanese. Taoo was arrested subsequently as the result of
a statement made by one of the other prisoners.
Detective Constable Colleary deposed to arresting
Teang Tsoo in consequence of a statement made by Tong Teang.
He searched his prisoner and found the two pieces of paper
produced by Mr Newman. Detective Inspector Brewster also
testified to finding the card at Tsoo's house.
Det.Sergt. Givens said he saw the defendants brought
into the Police Station and after the statements had been taken
they took Tsoo to his home 2135 Boons Road and on searching his
home found a photograph of a rifle and also a catalogue of rifles
and revolvers issued by a German firm. There were also papers
found there, which showed that Ysoo had dealings in land and
shares with Morrison. The witness then read the statement of
Tsoo, which was of a lengthy nature but which stated among other
things that he had known Morrison for some ten years or so.
On the twelfth or thirteenth of last month Taoo went to see him
at the British-American Tobacco Co. in connection with a mortgage
on real estate. When he reached Morrison's office he saw him in
conversation with "Young Schratter" of Schratter & Co. and
overheard part of the conversation which related to fire arms.
Schratter said to Morrison "Hany sang rifles 79cm. which
are the same as German rifles" Schratter left and Tsoo talked to
Morrison about the Mortgage. Later he asked Morrison if it were
true that he had firearms to sell and he replied in the
affirmative

He added that they were only for sale to the
Chinese and not to foreigners. If foreigners bought them, he
said, they would send them to some of the belligerent countries
in Europe and when the armies of the opposing nations got hold of
them,
